What is a janma kundali?

A janma kundali is a Vedic birth chart: a map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It records which sign was rising on the eastern horizon, where each of the nine grahas sat across the twelve houses, and which planetary period you were born into. Every prediction in Vedic astrology is read from that map.

What the report contains

The chart is cast sidereally using the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard in India, and computed with the Swiss Ephemeris — the same library professional astrology software and observatories use. Positions are accurate to the arcsecond.

Birth time matters more than most people expect. The ascendant advances roughly one degree every four minutes, so a two-hour error moves your lagna into the next sign and shifts every house in the chart. If your recorded time is approximate, the reading says so rather than presenting a guess as fact.

How to read it

Start with the lagna. It sets the frame — the sign rising at your birth becomes the first house, and every other house follows from it. This is why two people born on the same day can have entirely different charts.

Then look at the moon. Vedic astrology weights the moon far more heavily than Western astrology does; your rashi and nakshatra come from its position, and most compatibility and muhurat work is read from there.

Finally, check which dasha you are running. A strong planet in a weak period behaves differently from the same planet when its own period arrives. Timing is where the chart becomes useful rather than merely interesting.

Common questions

What if I do not know my exact birth time?

You can still get a meaningful moon-sign and dasha reading, since those depend on the date rather than the minute. Ascendant and house-based analysis does need the time — the lagna moves about one degree every four minutes. The report flags which parts are affected instead of guessing.

Is this sidereal or tropical?

Sidereal, using the Lahiri ayanamsa. Western astrology measures from the moving vernal equinox; Vedic astrology measures against the fixed stars. The two currently differ by roughly 24 degrees, which is why your Vedic sun sign is often the one before your Western one.

How is this different from a free kundali?
